Alfred Publishing has been around since 1922. They're known for their many educational publications--piano methods, band instruction and literature, choir works, and a growing library of guitar and percussion material. Some of their best-known titles include the Alfred D'Auberge piano method, the Alfred Basic Piano Library, Premier Piano Course, Music for Little Mozarts, the Teach Yourself series, and the Alfred Masterworks Series of classical piano literature. Alfred also owns Myklas Press (popular for its library of piano teaching pieces), and distributes the library of British Publisher Faber (ff) in the USA. Effective in May 2005, Alfred purchased Warner Brothers Music (below).

The Theodore Presser Company is the oldest continuing music publisher in the United States. Its founder, Theodore Presser (1848-1925), is remembered as the publisher of The Etude music magazine and the founder of the publishing firm, but Presser was also a philanthropist in the cause of music education. Theodore Presser Company represents the catalogs of many different publishers from around the world.
Presser was purchased by Carl Fischer in 2004, uniting the country's two oldest existing publishers.

G. Henle Verlag is a German publisher of urtext editions of a growing library of major classical compositions. The company was founded by Henle in 1948 to produce clean, finely engraved editions of works in their most original form, i.e., unedited, containing only the information the original composer included regarding slurs, tempos, articulation and other guides to interpretation.

Carl Fischer (1849-1923), the founder of the firm bearing his name was by training and profession a musician and manufacturer of musical instruments.
Shortly after arriving from his native Germany, he opened a musical instrument store in 1872. Eventually, he began publishing arrangements to tap into an underserved market of musicians. The catalog grew, and today some of the most famous teaching methods are still Carl Fischer imprints: The Arban book for trumpet, Klose's Celebrated Method for Clarinet, the Rose etudes, Clark's Technical Studies, and many more. Fischer also publishes the Fritz Kreisler and Jascha Heifitz transcriptions.
In 2004, Carl Fischer purchased Theodore Presser, uniting the two historic companies.

In 1899, Charles H. Willis founded the Willis Music Company in downtown Cincinnati. Now headquartered in Kentucky, the Willis Music Company has developed an educational catalog that includes prestigious names like John Thompson, Edna Mae Burnam, and William Gillock. Effective July 2005, Willis entered into a distribution deal with Hal Leonard. They continue to develop publications while Hal Leonard Corp handles sales and production.

Neil A. Kjos Music Company is the publisher of the renowned Bastien catalog of piano methods and supplements as well as popular band and orchestra teaching materials like the Standard of Excellence band method and the Mueller-Rusch and All for Strings orchestra methods. They are also the source for a library of literature, theory, and technique supplements edited by Keith Snell.
